Bisphenol A diglycidyl ether (DGEBA) and glycidyl terminated polydimethylsiloxane (ETDMS) were mixed in different ratios. The morphology of ETDMS modified epoxy systems was observed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The curing kinetics were also studied by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). This showed that the formation of microstructures follows a reaction-induced microphase separation mechanism.
Various blends of ETDMS/DGEBA were cured by stoichiometric DDM. Differential scanning calorimetry was used to characterize the curing behavior of the blends. The thermosets were fractured in liquid nitrogen after curing at 150 °C for 5 h. The fracture surface was observed using SEM at an activation voltage of 15 kV.
