With the development of modern society, some fields need materials with special functions, however, conventional polymers cannot serve the full needs. Therefore, new polymers with special functions are rapidly developing. Such polymers are called functional polymers. Functional polymers are an emerging field developed in the 1960s, and are new materials emerging from the penetration of polymer materials into electronics, biology, energy and other fields. Besides the mechanical properties of conventional polymeric materials, advanced functional polymeric materials could also possess chemical reactivity, photosensitivity, electrical conductivity, catalytic properties, biocompatibility, biological activity, pharmacological properties, selective separation, energy conversion, etc. They have become an important cornerstone in many fields.
Figure 1. Functional polymers
Functional polymers have high molecular weight, light mass and low density. And they have excellent mechanical properties, insulation properties, and heat insulation properties. Due to the different structures of polymers, their characteristics are also very different. Some specific polymer materials have good optical properties, such as PMMA, PC, PS, some have super high mechanical properties, etc. Functional polymer materials are involved in various aspects of medicine, bioengineering, etc. The raw material sources are also very rich and easy to prepare, and now with the development of science and technology functional polymers are also used in all aspects of life.
Functional polymers have potential applications in many fields such as energy harvesting and storage [1], wireless communication industry, biomedicine, oil/water or gas separation [2], smart and bionic industries.

Alfa Chemistry mainly provides adsorptive polymers, electrofunctional polymers, functional PEGs, photoactive polymers, biomedical polymers and silicone polymers.
Electrofunctional polymers refer to functional materials with electrical behavior under the action of the environment, which have the advantages of low density, low price, and easy processability compared to metals.
Learn more >Adsorptive polymers are materials that utilize the physical or chemical interactions between functional polymer materials and adsorbed substances, including physical attraction, coordination and electrostatic interactions, to temporarily or permanently combine the two and thus exert various functions.
Learn more >Photoactive polymers also known as photosensitizer, sensitizer and light crosslinking agent which are transfer light energy to some reactants that are not sensitive to visible light in order to improve and expand its photosensitivity.

Learn more >Silicone polymers are organic polymers containing silicon atoms that is an important part of polymer chemistry. The main chain of silicone polymers is composed of Si-O bonds, Si-N bonds or Si-B bonds, while the side chain is composed of silicon atoms connect with other organic groups.
Learn more >Biomedical polymers refer to polymer materials used in the diagnosis, treatment, repair or replacement of biological tissues or organs of physiological system diseases to enhance or restore their functions.
